What is Sashiko?

Sashiko is an early-400-year-old traditional Japanese embroidery style, that’s main purpose was to keep clothes warm and preserved. Back then, farming and fishing families, specifically, needed suitable and comfortable workwear that could keep them warm all at the same time. So, they came up with the idea of stitching pieces of worn-out fabric together, creating layers upon layers. This way they had fully-constructed clothes.

This style developed some more so that the embroidery wasn’t developed in a random style. But it rather followed a certain geometric pattern which is separated into five main types. And just like the way old fashion has been reintroduced into the fashion industry, the Sashiko style made it in as well. And in today’s world, it became fashionable decorative stitching, which popular brands, such as Nike, are adopting. Now, let’s see what the new Jordan 1 Sashiko is all about.

Air Jordan 1 Sashiko

This isn’t the first time Jordan Brand give Js the Shasiko treatment. But back in 2020, the brand debuted an Air Jordan 4 SE Sashiko, which created quite the hype in the industry. Matter of fact, this silhouette now resells for an average of $326 on the aftermarket.

So, the new Air Jordan 1 Sashiko adopts the Wabi Sabi concept- finding beauty in imperfection. The base comes covered in White, while Off-White covers the laces. Cut-out-like denim overlays the heel, forefoot, eye stay, and part of the upper tongue.

Additioal features include a brownish-aged midsole, giving the kicks a vintage feel to them. You can also find the signature Jordan logo embroidered on the heel in White, while a Jumpman insignia sits on the tongue tags. Finally, Black outsoles and Swoosh complete the look.
