As 2016 rolls in, there are new resolutions to make (and break), new people to meet, new jobs to get and for any respectable sneakerhead, new opportunities to grab some dope Jordan sneakers.
So, what are the most anticipated releases of 2016 and when are they happening?
1. OVO x Air Jordan in All Black
If you were one of the very many disappointed sneaker fans who weren’t able to get their hands on the white version of the OVO x Air Jordans last year due to the brand doing an unannounced limited edition drop last April in the OVO pop-up store in Los Angeles, then you’ll be excited to hear that this time around, the all black version is getting a global release.
Now, just because the release is going to be global doesn’t mean that these sneakers are going to be easy to come by. With anticipation for this drop steadily increasing, these sneakers are set to sell out instantly
WHEN: February 12-14
2. Air Jordan 4 OG ’89 in Cement White
Making their inaugural appearance in 1989, these classics were made famous by the Spike Lee movie “Do the Right Thing” when Buggin Out did what so many sneaker lovers do every day, whipped out an old toothbrush to clean his Js.
Since 1989 these beloved Jordans have only been re-released twice. Once in 1999 and a retro-release back in 2012.
The 2016 drop will also be a retro-release and feature the classic Nike Air branding on the back and insole of the shoe.
WHEN: February 13
3. The “Alternate” Collection
Slated for a Spring 2016 release, this retro themed throwback collection will feature 3 separate shoes:
- The Air Jordan 2 ’87
- The Air Jordan 4 ’89
- The Air Jordan 5 ’90
All three sneakers will be re-imagined with Chicago Bulls colors that will make any Jordan fan or sneakerhead swoon. Make sure to check back often for updates on the specific release dates for this collection.
WHEN: Spring 2016
4. The “Poster” Collection
The poster collection features two beloved Jordan models whose colors and styling will be inspired by ad campaigns for the shoes from back in the day.
- The Air Jordan 2 Retro
- The Air Jordan 12 Retro
The Air Jordan 2 Retro will feature all black and white details. This is to pay homage to the black and white ad that Nike released to hype the sneaker all the way back in 1987 with the words “WING IT” going across the ad. Coming full circle, the Air Jordan 2 Retros will have the words “WING IT” going across the heel and feature crocodile style leather details on the side panels.
As for the Air Jordan 12 Retros, they will also have the same color palette as the original releases from 1997, a black shoe with white and gold details. The original ad was dubbed “The Master” and needless to say that these Jordans are masterfully styled and designed. Stay tuned for further updates on release dates.
WHEN: Spring 2016
2016 is set to be one of the biggest years for Jordan Sneakers releases in a long time. With so much anticipation building, it’s going to be imperative for any serious sneaker collector to make sure that they’re leveraging the latest technology to get their sneakers faster than the rest of the crowd.
