The Complete History Of Pirate Black Yeezys

By August 4, 2023Adidas, Yeezy

AIO Bot - Pirate Black Yeezys HistoryColorway-wise, we can all agree that Pirate Black Yeezys are one of the best kicks the Adidas x Yeezy collab ever introduced. It’s a no-brainer that they’ll go down in sneaker history. So, now that Adidas decided to do damage control and sell all $1.3 Billion worth of Yeezys, it’s only fitting to look back on one of the most influential colorways.

Pirate Black Yeezys

If you weren’t in the reselling business between 2015 and 2016, we really feel sorry for you. The resale market was on fire back then and continued to go up until it became worth $6 Billion! And one of the main contributors to this success was the Adidas Yeezy Partnership.

However, you gotta know, it’s never too late to kick-start your reselling business. Matter of fact, since Yeezys are on their second sale this year and Jordan Brand blew the cover off their August lineup, now is the perfect time to invest in sneakers. And it all starts with learning how to cop for retail. So, click on the button below to get started with a full CHEAT SHEET on how to cop sneakers for retail on release day!

First Pirate Black Yeezys To Ever Drop

So, the first Pirate Black Yeezys to ever drop were the Yeezy BOOST 350s. They dropped on August 22 in 2015. And those who couldn’t catch it for retail headed for sites like StockX and bought it for $1k! And when they dropped again in 2016, they ranked among the most expensive sneakers back then, where they peaked at $1,500+ at some point.

In fact, what made these Pirate Black Yeezys even more hyped is the fact that Kim K flexed them all throughout 2015. Also, influencers such as Tyga, Jay Z, and Justin Bieber joined in on the support. Which was the cherry on top of Kanye’s genius marketing strategy.

So, the Yeezy 350 Pirate Black mainly features an all-black Primeknit upper. The midsole comes with Boost technology that provides the perfect cushioning ensuring comfort. Additional features include suede details on the medial side and red accents on the heel tab. So, all in all, the Pirate Black 350s dropped three times (four, if you count kid’s size): 2015, 2016, and 2023- in Yeezys’ first sale, post-making up.

Following the 350s, Adidas dropped the Yeezy 950 boots. They dropped in 2016, in four colorways: Chocolate, Moon Rock, Peyote, and Pirate Black. They featured cordura upper, suede detailing, and gripped soles.

Considering they dropped in October, these boots made the perfect winter fit. However, the silhouette as a whole received quite the criticism and many thought it was overpriced and unoriginal.

However, the resale prices of these Pirate Black Yeezys and other colorways fluctuated just like the opinions did. They went from reselling for more than $1,000 to below retail for more time than we could count. And currently, the 2015 Boots are selling for an average of $895. While the resale of the 2023 pair dropped below retail.

So, this pretty much sums up the Pirate Black Yeezys history. But question is, will Adidas give the Pirate Black treatment to more silhouettes in the upcoming sales? THAT we don’t know. We gotta wait and see.
