The Collaborative Powers of Supreme x Stone Island: Introducing Heat Reactive Outerwear

Based out of downtown Manhattan, Supreme Apparel, an American cult skate label, is the heart and soul of New York City skate culture. While their product is known for its authenticity and quality, the brand name is linked to a twenty-one year history of collaborative efforts with artists, skaters, hip-hop heads, designers, photographers, and musicians, the result of which has spurred a regeneration of cultural identity, as well as vastly unique products.

Supreme x Stone Island Collab 1Following a highly successful collaboration in 2015, Supreme Apparel is once again joining creative, technical, and design forces with Stone Island for the 2016 spring/summer line.

Stone Island, an Italian sportswear brand established in 1982, is a creation of Art Director and intellectual mastermind, Massimo Osti, and a successful product of Carlo Rivetti and his sister Cristina, who purchased the company in 1993. By utilizing Supreme Apparel’s skate ideology and Stone Island’s philosophy based upon research, experimentation, and function, the collaboration has produced another stylish line of apparel that speaks to a broad range of the populace.

Born from imaginative and pioneering design talents, as well as extraordinary technological expertise, the collaborative powers of Supreme Apparel and Stone Island, or Supreme x Stone Island, recently unveiled their spring/summer 2016 line, slated for release as of March 17th. The line features a range of centerpieces including nylon metal track jackets and track pants, quarter zip long-sleeved tops, a reflective compass sweater, heat reactive six-panel hats and crusher hats, and co-branded bags. While the garment line is bursting with artistic backbone, the central piece, and highlight of the release, is the heat reactive jacket.

Supreme x Stone Island Collab 2This hooded trench coat, constructed from heat reactive textiles referred to as thermochromic material, is exclusively unique and matchless. The make is a perfect blend of both companies’ strengths: Supreme Apparel’s design expertise and Stone Island’s background in technical material development and dyeing. The appearance of the heat reactive jacket is impossible to reproduce without the use of thermochromic material, which is created from thermochromic liquid crystals that undergo a chemical reaction that triggers a change in color. This specialty textile creates a seamless blending of color that is triggered by the temperature of the environment and body heat.

The Supreme x Stone Island line can be purchased direct through Supreme Apparel at their New York, Los Angeles, London, and Paris stores as of March 17th. The line will become available in Japan as of March 19th. Also, feel free to check out this new line, as well as Supreme Apparel’s sole garment ventures, at Supremenewyork.com. The line can also be found in select Stone Island stores and online via their website. Currently, there is only one physical North America Stone Island location, recently opened in Los Angeles, California, while another is slated to open in New York at a later date.
