Star Wars Adidas NMD R1 V2 “Lando Calrissian” Is an Empire Comeback!

By August 29, 2020September 3rd, 2020Adidas

STAR WARS ADIDAS NMD AIO FEATA New Beginning rose from a lightsaber platter last year. With the Adidas Star Wars collaboration that dropped in November 2019. After the Adidas GOT house pack dropped earlier that year. Clearly Adidas collaborations were overwhelmed with on-screen stardom and fantasy in 2019. Looking at their aftermarket values though, it’s no secret that the “far, far away galaxy” trip was a failure. Ultra Boost is not exactly a canvas for extreme hype. Even Jon Snow knows that. Knit a dragon or sew Chewbacca’s head on a Nike SB Dunk. And you’ve got yourself a resale kingdom! But that’s just not the bold vibe we get from German Boost. Better stick to Yeezy and morning joggers, Adi. That’s your market spot and it’s no shame to own up to it. However, the Star Wars Adidas NMD R1 V2 dropping soon this September uses “the force” quite differently.

Is Adidas Using the “Lando Metaphor”?

Shot down for its failed attempt at fantasy TV shows and characters, Adidas has planned its comeback in 2020. Still hanging onto the Star Wars theme, the character of Lando Calrissian is applied to an NMD R1 V2 model this time. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Episode V “Empire Strikes Back.” And what is Lando famous for? His becoming or transformation from a smuggler to an invaluable leader. If this is also Adidas’s way of proving its market leadership from the ashes of previously failed collabs, we’re here for it!

NMD R1 V2 Upgrades the Original R1 Model

The NMD model we miss is back. Although it’s not under Pharrell Williams, its innovative comfort is and always has been a sneaker fan-favorite. Not to be confused with the NMD R1 that debuted in December 2015. This Star Wars Adidas NMD is an R1 V2 model. It debuted only recently in December 2019. With Primeknit mesh and an EVA full-Boost length midsole. Similarly to the 350 V2 take on originally 350 Yeezy Boost sneakers. The cherry on top of the NMD R1 V2? The in-your-face text branding on the side panels in three languages! “The Brand With the Three Stripes” in English, German, and French. Pretty intimidating gesture.

Nodding to Lando’s fashion identity in the 1980 film, the “Sky Tint” colorway exhibits its might on the sneaker’s throat, toe boxes, and heel tabs. Black Primeknit mesh dominates the upper canvas. And the lacing system shields its straps with a black leather construct.

Retail Price: $140
Style Code: FX9300

The design efforts of this sneaker focus on the lacing and throat areas. As you can see, a character sketch of Lando enlightens each tongue. With golden Star Wars-branded dubraes at the end of the construct. Moreover, the sneakers’ internal adopts a golden shade. With insoles that nod to a co-branded background from the film itself.

Cop Lando or Prepare for Battle!

This one-of-a-kind NMD take on a popular Star Wars anniversary is a must-cop. With StockX asks currently over $500 for this intergalactic NMD R1 V2! We’re happy to see the model in action with Pharrell on a nomad break. Although, to be honest, we’d sure like to see it under Human Race some time soon. If Pharrell Williams decides to go culturally diverse with this silhouette as well, NMD will skyrocket like never before!
