Pharrell VS Kanye: The Williams VS West Sneaker Showdown

The year’s almost over and the industry is definitely going through crazy changes. However, this is the perfect time for us to cast our expectations for the upcoming year. And, we’re starting with a groundbreaking debate: it’s Pharrell VS Kanye, Williams VS West, and NMDs VS Yeezys.

So, here’s the thing: Adidas Yeezy does not exist anymore. If you haven’t already heard, Adidas let Kanye West go for multiple reasons – read here. And now, the Three Stripes has decided to produce said Yeezys SANS the Yeezy part – aka, Yeezy-less Yeezys. We don’t know how people are going to feel about this, or whether they’re going to sell their Yeezys. It’s a whole mess! But, since Yeezys are dead, this makes us wonder what this means for Adidas’ other models, including Pharrell Williams’ NMDs!

One thing we know for sure is that there will never be another Yeezy drop again. So, at this point we feel like doing a Pharrell VS Kanye sneaker debate is important. We feel like a huge shift is coming and we wanna be the first to ride the wave of change!

PHARRELL VS KANYE

First things first, in the Pharrell VS Kanye comparison, there’s one thing we really want to know. What makes Adidas Yeezys better than Pharrell’s Adidas NMDs? Or, in other words, why were Yeezys more hyped and coveted than the NMDs? What made this Adidas collaboration different from the one with Kanye? Let’s find out!

#1 HISTORY

So, looking back at the collaboration history for PHARRELL VS KANYE, you can see that they’re pretty close. In fact, the collaboration with Pharrell Williams officially took off before Kanye actually dropped a sneaker. But, this obviously proves that Kanye West brought in a type of hype that the “Happy” singer couldn’t compete with!

#2 SNEAKERS

As for the sneakers, when it comes to the PHARRELL VS KANYE debate, there’s no question about who wins. Pharrell worked on a lot of Adidas Originals sneakers and made a huge BOOM with NMDs. But, on the other hand, Kanye was keener on creating his own Yeezy originals. And so, he went on to create over 14 models of Adidas Yeezys.

However, we should note that a lot of the sneaker technology put into Yeezys is also in Adidas Originals. Including the infamous BOOST technology that people love with Yeezys! There are tons of BOOST sneakers that aren’t Yeezys, including the NMDs. 

#3 DEMAND & RESALE VALUE

So, to compare the demand and resale value for the PHARRELL VS KANYE debate, we chose 2 models of each. Each of these sneakers holds the highest TOTAL SOLD value of that year. And, to make things a bit fairer, we chose models with relatively close retail values and somewhat similar looks.

Now, if we’re going to be completely honest, in our opinion when it comes to looks Pharrell’s NMDs always win. Kanye took a more minimalistic approach which is very cool. But, dare we say he took it a bit too far – especially with white Yeezys. However, looking at the values above, the difference between total sold values is CRAZY. 

CONCLUSION

So, who wins the PHARRELL VS KANYE debate? Well, it’s pretty obvious that Adidas played favorites when it came to the demand and supply Yeezy chain. But, looking at the demand, that was pretty justified. However, this makes us wonder: what if Adidas had put in the same amount of marketing and production for Pharrell Williams sneakers?

Since a lot of people will be looking for Yeezy alternatives now, we expect Pharrell Williams sneakers to shine! And, you gotta admit, they look FREAKIN good! So, basically, it’s a win-win situation!
