The Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 was 2015’s ‘Shoe of the Year’ at the New York Footwear News Achievement Awards.  And Nike Air Yeezy II ‘Red October’ is one of the most sought after sneakers in history. Nike Air Yeezy

Kanye first revealed the Air Yeezys in all-black suede at the 2008 Grammy Awards. After a long sampling process involving several features and colorways. Finally, a trio of colors – Zen Grey, Blink, and Net – released in April, May, and June of 2009. Each colorway of the high-top basketball-inspired shoe had the same structure. Perforated uppers and mid-strap with different detailing such as glow-in-the-dark soles and printing on the strap. The first generation Nike Air Yeezy retailed at $215 USD and flew off the shelves instantly.

Nike Yeezy II

In June 2012, Nike released its Air Yeezy II. 5000 pairs of each colorway dropped, retailing at $250. The color options were Black/ Solar Red and Pure Platinum. And then, as a shock drop, the Nike Air Yeezy II Red Octobers released in Feb. 2014. The infamous and iconic Red Octobers sold out within 11 minutes.

Prices of all the Nike Air Yeezy 2s quickly inflated to over $4000 on sites such as eBay, with a pair of ‘Red Octobers’ in a UK men’s size 8 driving bids as high as $16 million USD. Today you can find a UK men’s size 10 for sale on eBay for $7,975 USD. It remains one of the most expensive sneakers in history.

The silhouette of the second generation Nike Air Yeezy was toned down to create a more casual vibe. The top was shorter and slimmer for a sleeker look. Egyptian-inspired styling elements included the god Horus on the tongue and hieroglyphics spelling out YZY under the strap. In addition to obelisk-shaped aglets at the end of each lace. Reptilian features included molding protruding from the heel counter and a snakeskin pattern on the back quarters.

Adidas Yeezy Boost 750

After leaving Nike due to a dispute over royalties, Kanye’s next collaboration delivered the Adidas Yeezy Boost 750 in February 2015. A limited number were released in flagship stores and a week later the 750 was made available through a wider range of retailers. The shoe was a departure from the Nike Air Yeezy, with the high-top featuring a zipper and mid-foot strap on top of an off-white Boost sole. Colors included black, brown, and lavender; the upper a luxurious suede. Though Adidas won’t release production figures, according to solecollector.com rumors put the number of black Adidas Yeezy 750 Boosts at around 5,000. The shoe, retailing at $350, sold out within 10 minutes.

 Adidas Yeezy Boost 350

First released in Turtledove in June 2015, the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 was very different again – far more traditional and minimalistic. A low-rise lightweight everyday sneaker, the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 was similar to Nike Roshe Run. The uppers were, in fact, a one-piece primeknit. The shoe featured one visible line of stitching on the front, canvas detailing on the heel, black YZY detailing on the isoles and Adidas boost technology in the rubber sole. The retail price of 350s was $200 and Adidas Yeezy sneakers had a bit of a higher stock. So the $200 sneakers released at a range of stores including Finishline, footlocker, Jimmy Jazz, City Gear, and End Clothing. The Pirate Black colorway followed Turtle Dove in August 2015, with Moonrock released three months later.

Nike Air Yeezy VS. Adidas Yeezys– the story so far

As with all Kanye’s Nike and Adidas Yeezy releases, runs have been minimal with far more disappointed sneakerheads than happy ones. Though Kanye tweeted that Adidas would make a million Yeezy’s in 2015, Sneakerheads are always desperate to get their hands on a pair.
